RI Outdoors: Moon Musings And Solstice Yoga
Moon Struck
Fifty years ago this month, Neil Armstrong was planting his feet in moon dust. Due to a lack of atmosphere, those world-famous footprints are still there. In commemoration of this momentous event, the Philmont Library is launching its summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” and co-sponsoring a Moon Walk with the Columbia Land Conservancy. Besides a guided trek around Summit Lake, Environmental Educator Heidi Bock will give participants a tour of the heavens – including stories and myths about the moon. Bring a telescope if you have one.

Nature-based Yoga
Never has being one with nature seemed so literal. Supersoul Yoga’s Bridgette Cappo is leading a yoga class at CLC’s Schor Conservation Area in East Chatham. Begin with a one-hour guided hike to the summit where the one-hour class will take place. Participants should bring their own yoga mat. Besides looking deep into your soul, views include the distant Catskills and the nearer Hudson Valley. But that’s not all. The event has been specially timed to take place at sunset on the solstice – the longest day of the year. Altogether, that’s a lot of alignment. Advance registration is requested.
