LitNet Parties With Pride
The Literacy Network of South Berkshire (LitNet) celebrated “Pride in Diversity, Pride in Community" at its 2019 Summer Fête on Saturday, June 15 at Naumkeag in Stockbridge, Mass. The event honored Jane Iredale and Bob Montgomery for their generosity, kindness and engagement in support of the Berkshire community. LitNet's Executive Director Jennifer Vrabel presented Iredale and Montgomery with awards from LitNet, as well as state citations from Representative Smitty Pignatelli. Both Iredale and Montgomery spoke of the powerful impact that the Literacy Network has on the lives of adult learners, and LitNet student Sylvana Proaño, originally from Ecuador, gave a testimonial to LitNet's role in her life. She explained, "Thanks to the Literacy Network, I have learned to speak, write and read this wonderful language that I always loved. LitNet has also helped me to gain my self-confidence and believe in myself. It has showed me that everything is possible." After hors d'oeuvres and desserts, the evening concluded with a paddle raise auction in support of the LitNet mission led by comedienne, audiobook narrator, actress and producer Alison Larkin.
