Shopping: An Americana Auction at Copake

Rural Intelligence Style Section Image

A mahogany breakfront up for sale at Copake Auction

If you’re frustrated by the high prices at many antiques stores and jonesing for something new for your house that connects you to the past, you should do like the dealers do: bid for bargains at the Copake Auction gallery. This Saturday, Copake is holding one of its seasonal Americana auctions, which features more than 500 lots that are an eclectic cross-section of country style—18th & 19th century furniture, artwork, folk art, textiles, china, glass and stoneware. You can go to Copake with your friends who have different tastes and budgets because Copake really does have something for everyone:  a custom six-foot wide mahogany breakfront with bubble glass Rural Intelligence Home and Garden(estimate $400 - $600), a large turkey compote (estimate $40 - $60), more than a dozen Oriental rugs and runners (estimates range from $25 - $800) and a score of quilts (estimates range from $25 to $1,475).
