In The Garden For Spencertown Academy Arts Center

Rachel Louchen reports from Ghent. On Friday, June 21, Spencertown Academy Arts Center held its annual Twilight in the Garden Cocktail Party at Kinderhook Farm — the home of Rene Iacone and her husband, Steve Clearman. The guests, including many longtime supporters of the Academy, which presents art-themed classes and workshops, enjoyed the bucolic setting of gardens, a duck pond, and rolling hills as they noshed on the masterfully prepared foods by the volunteer-based catering crew. The night kicked off a full weekend of agriculture-themed events including the Hidden Garden Tours and a lecture by landscape designer Duncan Brine, all aimed to inspire and inform green-thumb enthusiasts. At left, Rene Iacone and Steve Clearman, the evening’s hosts.

Board Members and Hidden Gardens Co-Chairs Madaline Sparks, and Lydia Kukoff; artist Cris Morales and Cindy Atkins, offered their skills as part of Let’s Eat!, the Academy’s entirely volunteer based catering crew.

Longtime supporters Nancy Van Deren and Ann Raimes; Chet Stark, garden host Maynard Toll, and garden host Charles Knauss.

Academy President Nick Van Alstine, board member David Highfill, Karen Jahn, and Lydia Kukoff.

Ruth Reichl with her husband Michael Singer; Wayne Green with screenwriter Bernie Kukoff.

Garden host Dave Voorhees, committee member Sarah Sterling, and artist John Cooley; Polly Dufresne, Fran Heaney, and former Academy President Kate Cohen.

Peter Blandori, former Spencertown Academy Executive Director Mary Anne Lee, and Nick Van Alstine.

Writer and Rural Intelligence contributor Shawn Hartley Hancock with landscape designer Julia Brine; Keith Galluzzo and garden docent, Amy Kaufman.

Party co-chairs Mary Ann Feldstein and Judith Choate; Judy Hindle with her husband, Mike Hindle.

Lawyer Jean Corigliano, Marnie Imfoff, Ann Darby, and Penny Rubin.
