Illustration Celebrations in Hillsdale and Stockbridge

On Friday, June 8, the opening reception of an exhibit at the Roeliff-Jansen Community Library in Hillsdale of the work of Ancram resident R.O Blechman, animator, illustrator, children’s book author, and New Yorker cartoonist, drew a crowd rife with admiring fellow artists and illustrators.  The show, which runs through June 24, includes the artist’s animated films.  On July 14 & 15, Blechman’s home studio will be among those on a library-benefit tour of artists’ studios.

On Saturday, June 9, supporters of the Norman Rockwell Museum donned velvet jackets, eye patches and scabbards to celebrate the opening of Howard Pyle: American Master Rediscovered with a Swagger & Dagger Dance Party. Museum director Laurie Norton Moffatt presented Walt Reed with the museum’s first ever Distinguished Scholar Award before guests moved outside to the terrace for food, drink, and dancing to music by the Berkshire Bateria. The exhibit will remain on view now through October. (Photos courtesy of Norman Rockwell Museum.)
