Abandoned Architecture and Dark Spaces
Dale Stewart reports from Hudson.
On a warm fall evening, art affectionados dashed between neighboring Hudson galleries McDaris Fine Art and Galerie Gris on Saturday, October 27. Galerie Gris featured a solo exhibition of UK photographer Christopher Sharples’ remarkably rich images of the abandoned Universal Atlas Cement Plant in nearby Greenport, NY. Sharples’ show at Galerie Gris (gallerists Steve Isoz and Todd Gribben pictured left with Ellen Thurston) runs though November 28. Next door on view at McDaris Fine Art, Bernard Williams’ Sighting Louis Sullivan presented stark reconfigured details of the master architect’s work; Kiko Govantes’ “Burnt”, a dark mixed media collection of abandoned and ominous rectangular foils found all over the world, and Joseph Bradley‘s works, “Lowcountry Landscapes”, a vivid and transformative use of paint on canvas. All are on display until December 15.
Gallerist Steve Isoz and Henry proprietor, Nancy Shaver; Fern’s Gail Peachin, Hudson Alderwoman Sarah Sterling with environmental activist Mike O’Hara.
