Berkshire Medical Center Toasts To Life And Local Heroes

Rachel Louchen reports from Pittsfield. With its gracious lawns and a statuesque building facing peaceful views of Lake Onota, The Berkshire Medical Center’s Cancer Center at Hillcrest Campus may not look like the usual medical center, but it was a lovely backdrop for the crowd attending the Taste of Life Wine & Beer Tasting on Saturday, September 28. The first annual event, which featured an extensive wine and beer selection provided by Kelly’s Package Store, raised funds for Integrated Health Services, including Reiki, yoga and exercise therapy (amongst many others), which are not covered by insurance but have been shown to improve symptoms in cancer patients. The evening also honored “Berkshire Heroes” — patients, caregivers and medical practitioners who have been selfless in their support of those battling cancer. Above, Vice President of Support Services Sean Jennings, Chief Operating Officer Diane Kelly, Brenda Cadorette, Vice President of Acute Care, and Karen Benzie, Vice President of Quality and Safety.

Ruth Blodgett, Senior Vice President of Planning and Development, with Diane Kelly and her husband, John Kelly, who had a big hand in organizing the event.

Joe Sylvester with his wife, Michelle Sylvester, Community Coordinator Berkshire North WIC at Berkshire Health Systems; Nurse Jennifer Nykorchuck and Peggy Ryan-Rockwell, training coordinator for BHS.

Dalton residents Charlie and Cheryl Stengl; Clinical educator Alexis Montgomery and Cathleen Vidoli, who works in development.

Reiki healers Cheryl Weider, Kelly Parzick, Denise Jester, Marie Cahill, Colleen Coakley-Shaw and Christine Simeone.

Physician Bill DeMarco with wife Jinny DeMarco; Brenda Cadorette and Karen Benzie.

Dr. Harvey Zimbler and Janis Zimbler; BHS staffers Sarah Witruk and Jessica Casey.

Business committee member Henry Holt, department director and event committee member Susan Duncan and her daughter, Shannon Duncan.
