Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at Bardavon

Sunday, January 23 @ 7 p.m.

When MASS MoCA was looking for a band notable enough to play the dance party for its 10th anniversary gala, the job fell on the worthy shoulders of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, whose powerful, retro sound had the crowd dancing for hours. This nine-piece, Brooklyn-based ensemble blows the roof off of any house they play with their high-energy blend of low-down, gritty funk and R&B plus gilded gospel and soul, fronted by the diminutive dynamo Sharon Jones, a Georgia native and former corrections officer at Rikers Island.
