Popa Chubby at Club Helsinki

Friday, November 26 @ 9 p.m.

His well deserved name may give you a giggle, but guitar aficionados know that Popa Chubby is downright serious when it comes to wielding his ax, though his virtuosity doesn’t negate his tongue-in-cheek humor. Born in the Bronx as Ted Horowitz, Popa Chubby may seem an unlikely candidate to be one of today’s foremost interpreters of the Jimi Hendrix oeuvre—a fact he acknowledges with the title of his latest vinyl release, How’d a White Boy Get the Blues?—but hearing is believing. If you need convincing, he’s got the chops and the attitude to prove it, as evinced by his new CD, The Fight Is On.
