Ollabelle at Club Helsinki Hudson

Friday, January 14 @ 9 p.m.

With a repertoire of traditional and original material spanning gospel, traditional/folk, blues, bluegrass, rock, soul, and jazz, the NYC-based quintet Ollabelle arose from a loose collective of multitalented musicians who gathered for a weekly session dubbed Sunday School for Sinners. They coalesced in the aftermath of 9/11 and have ridden an upward trajectory ever since, including appearing as the house band for last summer’s Simon & Garfunkel tribute show in Central Park. Singer/strummer Amy Helm’s pedigree certainly hasn’t hurt; she’s the daughter of Levon Helm of The Band; she and other Ollabelle members regularly play with the Levon Helm Band and at his Midnight Ramble sessions.
