Marjorie Thompson and Greg Franklin at The Dream Away

Thursday & Friday, December 2 & 3 @ 8:30-ish p.m.

Fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Marjorie Thompson grew up in New York City, but you’d never know it from the way she embraces the twang of the blues and gives it authentic voice. You’d also never know she’s got PhD in biology, is the Dean of Undergraduate Biology at Brown University, and a has racked up a stack of other achievements in the sciences, which didn’t stop her from pursing her dream of learning to put her guitar skills to use in public performance. She learned from the master, Jorma Kaukonen, and her own teaching skills came in handy as she’s now the academic advisors for those who followed her footsteps to the legendary Fur Peace Ranch. Oh, and she also has seven children. Joining her is Greg Franklin, a bass player who met Thompson at the Ranch, has played on three of her CDs, and also has an impressive sideline as a lawyer specializing in adoptions.
