Kid Koala at MASS MoCA
Saturday, December 11 @ 4 & 8 p.m.
Vancouver-born as Eric San, Kid Koala has DJ’d with Radiohead, Bjork, and DJ Shadow, and is much in demand across globe for his turntabling skills, but that’s just a fraction of what this multimedia artist does. Among his current projects is Space Cadet, a graphic novel about the interconnectedness between a young astronaut on her first solo flight and her earthbound, robot guardian/father-figure. The Kid has been working on a Space Cadet soundtrack and live presentation during a creative development residency at MASS MoCA, culminating in this work-in-progress debut, which will be a fully immersive experience for the audience, beginning with an interactive exhibition, and including five turntables, a piano, a cassette jukebox, a special set of by Terence Bernando (including premieres of new songs from a collaborative project), guest turntablist DJ P-Love, and inflatable “space pods” that serve as seating. Bring quarters for the jukebox, and bring your own headphones or earbuds for the audio visual show, which will feature quieter, more sublte music than the raucous racket for which Kid Koala staked his DJ claim.
